A 3-year-old was shot and killed in a motel tragedy in the Fort Lauderdale area.

In a tragic incident in Tamarac, Broward County, a 3-year-old child was fatally shot at the Extended Stay America Motel on Saturday morning. The motel, located in the 3000 block of West Commercial Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, became the scene of the tragedy around 8 a.m.

Responding to a call about a gunshot at 8:20 a.m., the Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and Tamarac Fire Rescue arrived at the motel. BSO spokesperson Claudinne Caro reported that upon arrival, they found the toddler with a gunshot wound, in the company of a woman. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the young victim and their relationship to the involved parties have not been disclosed by the deputies. The homicide unit of the department is actively investigating the incident.
