In a rare public appearance, singer Celine Dion was seen on Monday during an ice hockey game in Las Vegas.
According to media accounts, she attended her first public event in over three years—the NHL game.
After being diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that affects the nerve system and induces spasms, the Canadian singer had to postpone a number of tour dates last year.
The 55-year-old celebrity wrote on Instagram on Thursday, “My boys and I had such a fun time visiting with the Montreal Canadiens after their hockey game with Vegas Golden Knights in Las Vegas on Monday night.”
After the game, Dion stopped by the Canadian side and shared pictures of her and her three sons in the locker room with Martin St-Louis, the head coach of the Canadiens, and a few players.
The “My Heart Will Go On” singer is seen smiling and laughing with the players in a video that was uploaded to the Montreal Canadiens’ Instagram page, following her congratulations on a well-played game.
“I recall when you were 14 years old, you sang ‘Une Colombe’ for the Pope during his visit,” St-Louis remarked in French, referring to Pope John Paul II’s visit to Canada in 1984.
“Well, it’s been quite some time since then, hasn’t it? We’ve changed a bit since then, but not too much,” she playfully commented in French.
“We’ve aged gracefully,” St-Louis responded with a chuckle.
After exchanging firm handshakes with some of the players, the singer shared some words of wisdom.
“Stay healthy, stay strong, and keep doing what you do best,” she advised.
In her Instagram caption, Dion expressed her gratitude to the team for the “unforgettable” meeting and signed off with “Wishing you a fantastic season! – Celine xx…”
