North Korea closing embassies around the world amid suspected financial crisis

North Korea has already terminated diplomatic ties with embassies in Angola, Uganda, Spain, Hong Kong, and other countries.

There are growing concerns about an ongoing financial crisis as a result of North Korea’s continued closure of many of its few embassies abroad.

Reportedly, the hermit country is closing its embassy in Nepal as of this Friday.

North Korea has reportedly purposefully left at least five nations in recent months, citing diplomatic reorganization as the reason.

According to translations from Yonhap News Agency, a representative for North Korea’s foreign ministry wrote earlier this month, “We are conducting operations to withdraw and establish diplomatic missions in accordance with the changed global environment and national diplomatic policy.”

Diplomats have expressed some bewilderment as a result of Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un’s approval of withdrawal from Nepal, Spain, Angola, Uganda, and Hong Kong in recent months.

Experts from South Korea assert that the closures show how quickly their northern counterparts’ financial circumstances are deteriorating.
