Release date for “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” television series

Next year, a reworking of the 2005 movie that paired Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt will be available on Prime Video.

The eight-episode series “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” on Amazon has been set for release on February 2, 2024.

A press statement states that Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane are executive producers and co-creators of the new show. Glover and Maya Erskine co-star in the series as John and Jane Smith, respectively.

The revamped version of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” as detailed in a press release, presents a story where two solitary individuals find themselves employed by a secretive spy agency. This job promises them a life filled with espionage, affluence, global travel, and a dream residence in a Manhattan brownstone. However, there’s a twist: they must assume new identities and enter into an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith. As a married couple, John and Jane embark on perilous weekly missions while also navigating milestones in their burgeoning relationship. Their already complex cover story becomes increasingly intricate as they develop genuine feelings for each other, leaving them to ponder which poses a greater risk: their espionage activities or their marriage.

Donald Glover, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, emphasized that this show offers a fresh perspective compared to the original film. He believes viewers will be surprised by this new rendition, commenting, “You can always go back and watch the old one, but this one gives you a different feeling. People are definitely going to be shocked.” Glover expressed his anticipation of mixed reactions from the audience, hoping some might find it better or even worse than the original.

The original film, starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, led to the public revelation of their romantic relationship following its production. The pair eventually married but have since separated.
