Terence Arthur Sanderson, better known as Terry Sanderson, was a man well-known for his work as a journalist, novelist, and secularist as well as for his advocacy for LGBT rights. On November 16, 1946, in Maltby, South Yorkshire, England, he was born.
Terry attended the University of Montana after completing his studies at North Montana College. He committed his life to promoting secularism and defending the rights of LGBTQ+ people. Career
Sanderson began promoting the equality of LGBT persons in 1969. His columns for Gay Times on Media Watch have been a mainstay since 1982, receiving recognition as “perhaps the most informative record of the extent of press homophobia in the UK in the 1980s.”
In 1986, Sanderson started a publishing company devoted to LGBT themes called The Other Way Press after running into problems with a Christian-owned publisher. In 2006, Sanderson was chosen to be the president of the National Secular Society following a number of years as vice president. He helped organize demonstrations during Pope Benedict XVI’s state visit to the United Kingdom.
