A key player in the discovery of Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking network, Virginia Louise Giuffre (née Roberts; August 9, 1983 – April 25, 2025) was an American-Australian advocate for victims of sexual abuse. At the age of 41, she committed suicide on her farm in Neergabby, Western Australia.
Early Life and Exploitation
Giuffre was born in Sacramento, California, and had a difficult upbringing filled with early abuse and instability. Under the pretense of a massage job, Ghislaine Maxwell enlisted her into Epstein’s inner circle when she was sixteen years old and employed at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. Later, Giuffre said that when she was a teenager, Epstein and Maxwell trafficked her to influential persons, including Prince Andrew of Britain. She accused Prince Andrew of sexually abusing her when she was seventeen, an accusation he refuted.
Advocacy and Legal Battles
Giuffre married Australian martial arts expert Robert Giuffre and made Australia her home after fleeing Epstein’s network. In 2015, she founded the nonprofit group Victims Refuse Silence, which in 2021 changed its name to Speak Out, Act, Reclaim (SOAR) in recognition of her advocacy for victims of sexual abuse. Her actions significantly raised awareness of Epstein and Maxwell’s wrongdoing. Although the prince would not acknowledge any wrongdoing, Giuffre’s civil action against Prince Andrew was settled out of court in 2022 with a sizable gift to her organization.
Personal Struggles and Death
Giuffre dealt with personal difficulties in the weeks before her murder, such as a custody battle with her divorced husband and health problems after a minor bus accident. She had also disclosed concerning health updates, such as kidney failure and injuries. Even after her hardships, Giuffre continued to speak out against sex trafficking and sexual abuse until her passing. She was a “fierce warrior” and a loving mother to her three children, according to her relatives. According to authorities, there is nothing odd about her death.
Legacy
Virginia Giuffre’s courageous efforts played a pivotal role in bringing Epstein and Maxwell to justice and in raising global awareness about sexual exploitation. Her advocacy inspired many survivors to come forward, and her legacy continues to influence the fight against sexual abuse and trafficking.
